Why have we started in the Northern Rivers?

Our founders Matt and Michael grew up in Casino and spent many a holiday in Byron, Lennox and Evans Head.  So many fond memories…

Then they’ve worked around Australia and overseas but you know the old saying: You can take the boy out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the boy.

One of the issues that bugged them growing up, and wasn’t a fond memory at all, was the limited choice available in regional areas compared to their city cousins:

As Matt often says (like all the time):

In the 80s there seemed to be only two of everything: two TV stations, two radio stations, two choices of car… Oh yeah there were a few ones too: one KFC, one Pizza Hut, and eventually one McDonalds. Then I’d visit family in Sydney and there were multiples of everything!

Now, with broadband, it seems regional areas are being left behind the big cities again.  And the pandemic showed us how dependent we are on strong internet connections at home, as well as work.

Komet believes fast and reliable broadband is as essential as electricity and running water. Yet, so many communities are not considered essential and are missing out. Big time.

So Matt and Michael have come full circle. They started Komet to, in some way, give back. To the area that was their childhood home for so long. And to ensure this community – adults and children – have the opportunity to learn, thrive and prosper, in our digital world.

Just like the city slickers!
